Grooming
Booking a ‘spa day’ for your pup means they will spend one-on-one time with Misty from start to finish. She books only a small number of dogs each day so there isn’t a rush to get one completed and out the door. Misty does her best to keep the grooming process as low stress as possible. There are breaks, toys and treats involved with most dogs, as well as lots of love and belly rubs!

Sleepovers
**CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE**
AKA boarding or kenneling. :-) Your pup can have a room, a crate, or an outdoor pen (depending on your request and availability) and spend time playing, making new friends* and getting belly rubs while you are away. *being allowed to socialize is at your discretion and depends on your pups demeanor towards other dogs.

Training
Training can happen while your dog is staying with us at Sunshyne Kennel (when boarding becomes available) or during an appointment with you, your pup and a trainer. Do keep in mind that either option requires a commitment from you if you want your pup to retain what they’ve learned. We do not currently take any aggressive dogs for training.

Breeding
We breed only German Shepherd Dogs. Our breeding program is very small with plans for only a few litters per year. Our mama dogs are family. They live with us and stay even after they are no longer whelping pups. Click on the PUPPIES tab or check out our blog for info on our past, present & future pups.
About Sunshyne Kennel:
Located in the heart of NC, just outside a small but growing city named Randleman, Sunshyne Kennel is situated next to a two lane country road and attached to the home of the owner- Misty, and her family of people, dogs and cats.
A little about Misty: she has loved dogs for as long as she can remember. Some of her happiest memories are with dogs and some of her saddest, too (saying goodbye is hard). When she was a little girl she dreamed of having a space that was a kind of “all in one” for dogs: grooming, vet care, breeding, boarding, rescue, pet store, etc and now as an adult she’s finally getting to make some of that dream come true!
About the facility: while the grooming rooms may be considered small by some, Misty thinks they are just perfect for her! Her five German Shepherd Dogs have plenty of room to run and play and there are also two separate fenced in areas in case anyone shows up early or leaves late for their grooming appointment. Training happens anywhere: at SK, the park, your place, in dog friendly stores and more. Eventually there will be indoor space on the property for training, as well! When there are puppies being raised at SK- they live inside with the family. And the boarding facility- well it’s in the dream stages currently, but will hopefully become reality in the next six months or so.
Education & Learning
**List of Misty’s current & continuing education is located to the right**
You will find many groomers and trainers in the canine world that just decide to ‘give it a go’ with one of those businesses or “hobbies” without having any formal education in that area. You may also be shocked to learn there are no laws (in the state of NC) to govern who can or can’t open a grooming salon or a dog training facility. Boarding kennels are currently inspected by the states Agriculture Department and the rest is overlooked.
You won’t find a lack of education at Sunshyne Kennel. Misty has two certifications and is working towards obtaining several more. She is also a voracious reader and will spend hours doing research online if she can’t find an appropriate book on the subject (and sometimes, even if she can.).
-
Misty is an ABC Certified Dog Trainer. She finished her 9 month course with honors and did 25 hours of 1:1 training with an established dog trainer in her area. She also trained her dog Lottie for her STAR Puppy Certification and is working towards the CGC Certification with Lottie, as well. Misty has worked with multiple other dogs in the past with basic skills and tricks.
-
Misty is an ABC Certified Dog Groomer. She finished her course with honors then traveled to Holden Beach, NC to do over 150 hours of internship with an NC Master Groomer and a retired Competition Groomer. Misty continues her education with those groomers whenever the opportunity arises for her to travel to them.

Misty Sunshyne is a member of the International Association of Professional Esthetic Groomers. In order to maintain good standing in the IAPEG, one must complete the specified number of hours of education, be pet CPR certified & more.
-
Misty is an avid reader and continues to read thru her grooming and training books though her courses are complete. She also watches videos from other like minded groomers and trainers to learn new techniques and to expand her knowledge beyond what her schooling has taught her.
Meet Our Family Dogs
-
Lilo
Lilo is our four year old. She won’t come to greet you until she’s found something to bring to show you. Lilo is mom to Sunshyne Kennel’s first litter of GSD puppies! She makes us laugh when she puts her ears back and she loves nothing more than a good cuddle and an ear rub. <3
-
Kenai
He may look scary but he would rather be piled up in your lap than anywhere else! Kenai is daddy to our first ever litter of pups and he loved being a dad (once Lilo would let him close to the babies). Kenai is living his best life patrolling the yard and trying to carry sticks that are a LOT bigger than him!
-
Kylo
Our sweet boy Kylo is the son of Lilo and Kenai. He was the chonkiest, sweetest lil’ pup and we just couldn’t bear to part with him. Kylo has no idea he weighs almost 100 lbs and insists that he can, in fact, still fit in your lap! He spends most of his time patrolling the yard with his dad- but he would rather dig Kylo-sized holes than carry around sticks.
-
Lottie
Always Wishin’ on a Star (call name: Lottie) is an Agouti coat German Shepherd Dog. She is STAR Puppy Certified and currently working towards being CGCCertified. (These programs can be found under AKC.org) As long as she passes her hip & elbow checks she will be a part of our breeding program once she turns two years old.
-
Sunni
Our Sunni (lovingly known as Sunni-Bunni because of her love of jumping) is the baby of the family. She is also, genetically, a Pie-Bald German Shepherd Dog. She is silly and spunky and if she passes her hip and elbow checks she will be a part of our breeding program once she turns two years old.
-
Koda
While Koda does not belong to us, he does live with us part time- so he deserves a spot, too! Koda is Kenai’s big brother (half) and Kylo’s uncle. He is a retired service dog and forever good boy (though he does have a penchant for eating socks!). Koda is also very talkative.
